More PowerFest Questions

It has come to my attention that the entry forms say that we are going to be pressing an axle. This is a mistake. We will be pressing a log. I will get the new entry forms uploaded soon!

Someone also asked about the thickness of the handles on the farmers. i will get this information out as soon as I get it!

Some Questions Being Asked about the PowerFest Strongman Competition

Is this a NAS-sanctioned event?

No, this is not a NAS sanctioned event. We have competed at both styles of contests in the past and we wanted to make this more of a regional pride competition. While you will not qualify for National competition, the level of the events are certainly demanding and you can be proud of being the champion of this contest, for sure. We also did not want to mess with weight classes. Screw it! Let's throw everyone in there together and watch everyone fight it out until the end! Come and take the cash guys! $200 for first overall and $50 for first in each event.

What is the weight of the sandbag?

The weight is 200 pounds. People are going to be huffing and puffing around. remember, this is a front carry, so make sure you train the event correctly. Nothing can be worse than improper preparation in training. Practicing by shouldering it and then sprinting will get you nowhere on comp day. You must carry it in a bear hug position or zercher style!

Will the axle be Double Overhand (Double Pronated grip?

As much as I love the Double Overhand Axle Deadlift, that is more of a Grip-limiting exercise that should be saved for Grip contests. So the answer is no. You can take a mixed grip on this. We want to see lots of reps, so start training for endurance!

Is it indoors or outdoors?

Definitely indoors! Dave has a great venue lined up for this - an indoor field hockey rink, if I remember correctly, with booths all around the perimiter and a track going around too! So, it's going to be great for all events, especially the truck pull and the sandbag carry.

Will the Axle be normal height or closer to 18 inches?

Great question. Right now, we are planning for it to be normal height. We do not have any equipment that will allow us to contest it at a different height.

2008 PowerFest

Dave Bellomo, from MaxKettlebells.com and Jedd Johnson and Jim Smith of the Diesel Crew will work together to promote the first annual Williamsport Powerfest on January 27,2008 in Williamsport PA.

This spectacular event will hold a strongman contest, a bench press contest, among other countless booths and side performers.

The Diesel Crew will be promoting the strongman contest. There will be 5 events:

Log Press for Reps
Farmer's Hold for time
Axle Deadlift for Reps
Sandbag Carry for Distance
Truck Pull
